The Board Members of AELSO meet with the Chancellor of Herat University
A high-level delegation from the Afghanistan Economic and Legal Studies Organization (AELSO) meet with the Dr. Abdullah Fayez, Chancellor of Herat University and discussed about the joint programs and goals seeking Herat University’s cooperation in organizing future programs.
Starting the meeting, Mohammad Khaled Ramizy, Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the AELSO, spoke on behalf of the delegate sharing the AELSO’s prospects and vision for promoting free society values particularly human rights in universities as well as the role of universities and academic institutions in fighting and opposing radicalism and extremism in the country.
Mr. Ramizy reminding AELSO’s new programs and plans to organize Human Rights training club for the youths of the western provinces particularly Herat, National Youth Conference (think big), and regional youths summit with the active participation of Herat youths in Uzbekistan and Tajikistan, emphasized on the importance of strengthening cooperation’s between AELSO, the White Assembly and Herat university for better promotion of enlightenment and fighting extremism in the society. Ramizy added: if Herat University is interested, we will liaison with the international organizations partnering with AELSO for improving the research capacity of the university and strengthening its global outreach.
Continuing the meeting, Dr. Abdullah Fayez, Chancellor of Herat University, welcomed the delegate and appreciated AELSO efforts toward enlightenment and promoting free and democratic values in accordance with the teachings of the Holy Religion of Islam.
He said:
“Herat University is a shared home of all Afghans which has been serving the young generation of the country with the approach of conducting academic researches and education as well as promoting the values of humanity among youths. Considering the needs of the labor market, new disciplines have been established after having deep consultations with the private sector, to focus more on quality rather than quantity based on our internal policy.”
He added:
“It worth’s mentioning that Herat University is the first university in the country to have a Center for Strategic Peace Studies. The center has conducted many academic researches on peace and extremism which have been submitted to the public, especially senior decision-makers in the country. According to the latest research done by this center, extremism in the country’s universities has roots in schools and Madrasas. To effectively tackle this issue, it requires serious attentions to be paid and amendments into the existing curriculums as well as currently used teaching materials. On the other hand, Herat University has students and lecturers from all 34 provinces of the country with having 52% of female students and 48% male.”
Fayez added:
“Herat University has signed mutual cooperation agreements with many regional and international universities as well as academic institutions in order to make the university more dynamic, and soon we are going to sign an agreement with the Cambridge University one of the highly prestigious universities in London. The institution is also willing to have such cooperation with the Afghanistan Economic and Legal Studies Organization (AELSO) in order to contribute to promoting values of humanity in the country, particularly in Herat.”
After having comprehensive discussions on the common goals and joint plans for future programs, both sides agreed to sign an agreement in the nearest future. Soon the agreement will be signed and cooperation will be started
Following the meeting, books and academic publications of the Afghanistan Economic and Legal Studies Organization (AELSO); containing valuable academic materials in the field of human values and the compatibility of these values with the teachings of the holy religion of Islam, were presented by the delegation to the Herat University and the Center for Strategic Peace Studies of the mentioned University.
At the end of the meeting, the Chancellor of Herat University reiterated his commitments for future cooperation among both sides and escorted the delegates by presenting a research booklet written by the Herat University lecturers on the topics of extremism and peace in Afghanistan.
