Dr. Amit Chandra is a passionate promoter of liberal values. He is a social development professional with expertise in research and advocacy in public policy space. His work in past has been deeply focused on school education, urban livelihoods, and governance. Amit has worked with the Delhi based think tank Centre for Civil Society (CCS) as ‘Associate Director’. He has also spent a year in Kabul working with The Asia Foundation (TAF) providing knowledge and technical support to the Ministry of Education, Afghanistan. Amit has played a crucial role in developing, strengthening, and scaling up National Independent Schools Alliance (NISA), the national federation of associations of low-cost private schools, as ‘National Coordinator’. He has also led Jeevika Campaign as ‘National Coordinator’ advocating issues of street vending as a legitimate means of livelihood. His work has played an important role in shaping up the following public policies discourse in India: National Urban Street Vending Act 2014, amendments to India Forest Act 1927, amendments to Micro Small and Medium Enterprises Development Act 2006, and initiatives taken under Ease of Doing Business campaign by the Government of India. His work and views have been widely quoted in media and academic publications.
