Political Participation of Women from the Perspective of Islam and Afghan Legislation

The political participation of women in society is considered one of the major social issues today, especially in developing countries, which are embroiled in conflicts and societies where local customs, interactions, and sometimes dark religious justifications prevail. The aim of this current research is to study the political participation of women from the perspective of Islam and the laws of Afghanistan. When discussing women’s political participation, some argue that women do not have the right to participate in political affairs from an Islamic perspective. Therefore, our endeavor in this research is to explore women’s political participation from the standpoint of Islam and to determine whether Afghan laws, particularly the country’s constitution, grant women the right to participate in political affairs.
On the other hand, the political participation of citizens is considered crucial for political development today, and it is recognized as one of the prerequisites for political development. People, as the main builders of political and social life, engage in decision-making and community management through their political participation, effectively shaping their political destiny. Political participation essentially guarantees the legitimacy of governance, and the more citizens participate politically in society, the more credibility, character, and international position governance will enjoy. With political participation, political power is peacefully transferred, and people’s participation in decision-making across various fields will empower them to make optimal use of their abilities.
