Liberty Club
Afghanistan is a country that is experiencing war and violence since years and still is in a state of unrest. Beside other factors, we can claim that the culture of solving problems through use of force and violence is a major reason for such a situation in Afghanistan. After the fall of the Taliban regime in 2001 and the establishment of a new government with support from the international community has paved the way for a new generation of Afghans to be prepared for taking the social and political responsibility of the country; and they are the only hope of its people and international community in order to bring peace and prosperity in the country.
However, Afghanistan is still under violence and war and promotion of democratic and liberal values, tolerance, and opposing of radicalism among different groups of this country is very essential. Afghan youth need to understand the disadvantages of radicalism, war and violence and the advantages of peace, democracy, liberty and tolerance. Since Afghanistan is in a stage of transition from classic generation who believe in war, violence and solving problem through the use of force, conferences, views exchange programs, distribution of booklets and conducting research is very important in order to promote democracy, liberty, tolerance and opposing of radicalism.
Afghanistan Economic and Legal Studies Organization (AELSO) has worked with different youth groups, civil society organizations, university students and Islamic scholars since 2009 and is now trying to expand its activities and focus more on fighting against extremism in Afghanistan by launching a series of conferences, roundtables, views exchange programs and seminars in private and public university campuses to promote democracy, liberty and tolerance and to oppose radicalism that the citizens and new generation of Afghanistan are better be able to understand liberal values.
The “Liberty Club” project of the Afghanistan Economic and Legal Studies Organization (AELSO) will enable and educate approximately more than 40000 individuals and students to understand what are democracy and liberty and how they can fight in the current situation of Afghanistan against radicalism/extremism in the country. The main focus of this project will be the public and private university students.
