ORGANIZATION BACKGROUND

The Afghanistan Economic and Legal Studies Organization (AELSO) is an independent NGO based in Afghanistan and registered as a non-profit and non-political, non-governmental organization with the Ministry of Economy of Afghanistan on December 10, 2009.

The mission of AELSO is to promote and strengthen social justice, peace, pluralism, and human dignity in Afghanistan through focusing on market-oriented solutions and the rule of law in compliance with reformed Islamic values.

POSITION DESCRIPTION

We are currently looking for an organized individual for our Development Associate role in our headquarter office in Kabul, Afghanistan.

As the Development Associate with the AELSO you will be responsible for planning and organizing data, managing grants, writing fundraising letters, reports, proposals, overseeing fundraising activities, planning events, and cultivating strong relationships with potential donors and institutions and other related activities.

Reports directly to the Chief Executive Officer and works under the coordination of programs and development department.

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Manage process of opening and closing new donor funds.
  • Assist with special events planning, preparation and execution and processing of online RSVPs.
  • Compile and create folders and marketing materials for development of projects.
  • Write all kinds of reports for donors, partners, website and social media platforms.
  • Coordinate, attend and draft minutes and other documents for Development Committee meetings and CEO.
  • Assist other departments with the following duties: scheduling meetings, calendar and contacts maintenance, meeting preparation and follow-up, among additional responsibilities.
  • Write, proofread, edit and send correspondence, including but not limited to: Fund agreements, addendums, donor letters and proposals.
  • Establish connections with local media outlets in order to promote the programs of AELSO and be engaged with them.
  • Meet and greet our volunteer team from across Afghanistan and ability to assign and give them different opportunity to be engaged with the organization activities.
  • Work closely with the finance department on creating budgets for programs and proposals.
  • Translate texts from Dari to Pashto and English and from English to Dari and Pashto.
  • Manage gift acknowledgement process and produce donor letters and reports on monthly basis.
  • Identify different funding opportunities and write applicable proposals for raising funds.
  • Support team on producing of our radio programs and strategies to promote the programs through different online platforms.
  • Provide monthly and quarterly progress report
  • Assist CEO, program manager and other key staff in planning and implementing of programs.
  • Having of initiatives and new ideas to run the programs in new ways and limited budgets.
  • Other duties as assigned by AELSO’s CEO

POSITION REQUIREMENTS

  • BA preferred with minimum of 1-3 years of experience in an area related to office administrative support, development, project management or event coordination. Prior nonprofit work experience a plus.
  • Exceptional skills in the areas of organization, attention to detail, time management, ability to manage multiple tasks, define and set priorities and problem solve.
  • Excellent customer service abilities.
  • Excellent reading, writing and grammar skills. Both written and verbal.
  • Excellent skills and experience with Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook and other WordPress to update and work on the website.
  • Demonstrated team player with a strong collaboration abilities.
  • Ability to take initiative with projects to work both independently.
  • Knowledge of telephone and email and ability to send general emails.
  • Ability to travel with AELSO team to all provinces of Afghanistan and abroad.
  • Intention to stay and live in Afghanistan not in the seeking of asylum or in the process to leave the country.
  • Ability to present and give presentations about the activities of the organization in national and international events.
  • Impartiality, having of openness and respect for diversity and all Afghans.
  • Having positive attitude and the ability to work under pressure.
  • Flexibility in schedule required.
