Tolerance as the Central Theme of the Shia and Sunni Scholars’ Summit in Kabul
The “Islam and Tolerance” Summit conducted by the Afghanistan Economic and Legal Studies Organization (AELSO) in collaboration with Dawat University, brought together Shia and Sunni scholars, students, and youth in Kabul.
During the summit, religious scholars discussed the concept of tolerance from the perspective of the Holy Quran and Islamic jurisprudence, emphasizing that mutual acceptance is a fundamental principle in Islam.
The speakers at the summit highlighted the importance and significance of tolerance in Islam. They stressed that promoting brotherhood, embracing diversity, fostering mutual respect, upholding human dignity, strengthening solidarity, and institutionalizing mutual acceptance within society are fundamental responsibilities of Islamic scholars.
At the conclusion of the summit, the book “Why, as a Muslim, I Defend Liberty” by Mustafa Akyol was introduced to the scholars, guests, and participants. Copies of this valuable book were distributed to the scholars and guests to assist them in conveying its messages on tolerance and freedom from the perspectives of the Quran and Islam to the broader community.
