The series of Freedom & Economics Seminars organized by the Afghanistan Economic & Legal Studies Organization (AELSO) in collaboration with Borna Higher Education Institute on the important topics such as; freedom, economic development, entrepreneurship and prosperity with the participation of university professors, experts, students and youth for half day in two different times separately with participation of Afghan women and men at Faizabad city of Badakhshan province.

In this seminar, participants learned, discussed and exchanged their ideas on different issues such as; freedom, economic development, role of freedom of expression in economic development, entrepreneurial challenges & opportunities in Afghanistan and practical strategies for solving economic challenges in the country.

Hanif Farzan, Chairman of AELSO, talked about the mission & vision of The Afghanistan Economic and Legal Studies Organization (AELSO) and said: ” In order to reach development, we need to implement three basic elements; Manpower with skills, practical knowledge and technology. Therefore, AELSO in its strategic vision, welcomes & supports youth’s initiatives and plans for advancing peaceful and prosperous Afghanistan.”

Abdul Ahad Hajezada, Chancellor of Borna Higher Education Institute, spoke about the role of academic institutions in development of Afghanistan and said: “Academic institutions are the key sources of production & growth of development ideas, which play its basic role in economic & social process of development. Universities are the base & central core of dedicating standard educations which can offer market a high quality manpower and source.”

Shir Ali Qasemi, Dean of Law & Political science faculty of Borna Higher Education Institute, talked about role of freedom of speech in economic development: “Media plays fundamental role in economic & social development of a country. As a most recent definition of development; it defines as meeting the needs of today’s generation without harming the interests of tomorrow’s generation which by observing this we can lead the society to development.”

Gul Reza Hassani, Dean of Economic faculty of Borna Higher Education Institute, talked about challenges & opportunities of entrepreneurship in Afghanistan and said: “An entrepreneur creates value and responds to need of society by identifying basic sources of opportunities. Afghanistan has a wide area for investment and starting a business because of having strategic location, low labor prices and suitable climate changes.”

Wahidullah Serat, University professor of Borna Higher Education Institute, talked about economic challenges & solutions in Afghanistan and added: ” If we want to have a better economic situation, we should implement these 5 stages: 1) Transferring from traditional to industrial economic system 2) Preparing the element for entering into industrial economics 3) Economic changes 4) Economic maturity 5) Economic stability”

Salahuddin Qarizada, AELSO’s provincial fellow in Badakhshan, spoke about role of youth in economic & social development and said: “Afghanistan’s economic and social prosperity & development is possible with if we invest in building youth’s capacity.”

In (Open Mike) section of the program, participants shared their views on freedom, economic development and entrepreneurship in Afghanistan and received answers to their questions from the experts of the program.

Oranus Sharifi, participant of Freedom & Economics Seminar in Badakhshan province, said: “In current situation of Afghanistan, organizing such programs are very motivating & encouraging because it help youth to believe in continuing their efforts toward achieving economic development in the country. I also thank AELSO for having the initiative of supporting youth’s entrepreneurship projects which will be very impactful for youth and women empowerment in the country.”

Abdul Qaher Beheshti, the General Programs Director of AELSO, in conclusion part of the program said: “Today’s program is an introduction of our upcoming nationwide events. In this series of seminars, we have tried our best to teach youth & students the basics of freedom, economic development and entrepreneurship in order to prepare youth for our big entrepreneurship competitions by the name of (Entrepreneurship Camp) which through this camp they will have the opportunity to share their entrepreneurial projects and seek the supports for its implementation.”

The “Freedom & Economics Seminar” ended by distributing certificates to the participants and taking group photos, successfully.
